Before & After: Project Tilman Family Room

This family room I have been working on is 90% finished and I just could not wait to get some shots of the space! Artwork is being hung next week and the ottomans are on backorder until next month...and so it goes!

My lovely clients are a family with 2 young kids, so we focused on creating a room that was kid-friendly with storage for the games and toys, but was still a stylish and relaxing space for the parents to unwind after a long day.

Before

The family room before had dated finishes and the furniture layout didn't work for the space.

The furniture was lined along the walls and there was too much empty space in the centre of the room!

The entertainment unit and TV was too small for the room and my clients wanted custom built ins made and I was all for it!

After

We had a custom sectional made to fit the narrow space that fits the whole family! Instead of purchasing a sectional from a retailer that lasts just a couple of years, my clients invested in this custom, Canadian made sectional that will last for decades and grow with the family. The fabric is extremely durable and will stand up to the kids playing on it as well.

This round solid mango wood coffee table is perfect for a room that has young kids running around because it has no sharp corners! This indoor/outdoor blue herringbone rug is so easy to clean up any spills, while still being soft underfoot and doesn't skimp on style.

And to top it off... we added some beautiful baskets to store all the blankets and toys!

Okay... I am obsessed with how this fireplace turned out! We kept it simple and sleek and went with an electric fireplace to keep it family friendly. And this round mirror above the fireplace makes all the difference in the room - it makes the room appear larger and acts as a beautiful (and minimal) focal point.

The custom built ins has cabinets on the bottom to hide all the kids games and toys when not in use, while the open shelving is perfect for accessorizing with some family photos, books and decor! We are waiting for two navy ottomans to go in front of the TV for extra seating!

These custom drapes from Tonic Living are absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! We used this beautiful fabric and they add just the perfect amount of playfulness to the room. They really complete the space!

Accessorizing with the kids' books and some cute bookends keeps the room playful and that it remains a room for the whole family!
